St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic School Gym Teacher (Physical Education) is responsible for planning and implementing physical education activities for students ranging from PreK to 8th grade. Additionally, he/she monitors students and evaluates student achievement of goals. This teacher emphasizes sports related skills, games, movement patterns, and general fitness activities all within an environment that embraces our Catholic Identity. He/she maintains records and student information for gym class. They are responsible for communication with all parties relating to the progress of students in the gym class. The gym teacher participates in all faculty and staff engagements including in-service training. The gym teacher is responsible for planning annual events such as Field Day and other school-wide events. This is a 10 month position. The role, depending on candidates experience and certification status, may be full time (5 days a week and 37.5 hours or Part time (4 days a week and 25-28 hours per week). Attendance is required for all scheduled school days and in-service training days.
The role always included Job duties that involve preparing/setting up gym prior to school and equipment prior to each class. He/She prepares and implements engaging lesson plans, provides safe learning experiences for all students by explaining rules and safety guidelines for all gym games. For full time consideration the candidate must also demonstrate the ability to lead Health, Wellness, Healthy Living and Nutrition classes for Middle School Grades in a classroom setting. In addition they will create daily recess activities for staff to execute safely with all grade students.
A Teaching certification is required. Minimum 2-3 years experience supervising students / children in sports and/or group activities is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills needed. . The role requirements include being able to physically walk and stand for long periods of time and be able to carry, push, set up, and clean up required gym equipment.
