Our Faith:
We learn about Families and the Family of the Catholic Church. Kindergartners recite prayers, poems, sing songs and hymns. We learn about the Holy Family and Saints. We study the lives of Our Blessed Mother, St. Joseph, Jesus, St. Francis and St. Patrick. We attend school Prayer Services and Masses. We participate in service to the needy by donating items to the Camden Soup Kitchen and St. Vincent DePaul, Holy Childhood, Cancer Outreach Programs and write cards to the military.
Reading/Integrated Language Arts:
Kindergartners review the alphabet and letter sounds, learn sight words and high frequency words, color words and number words. We discover rhyme families, recite rhymes, poems, and practice memory skills. Children begin to read easy readers and students are challenged to their abilities. Kindergartners begin to write and illustrate short sentence stories in handwriting books and journals.
Math:
Kindergartners learn to sort, classify, identify patterns, write numerals to 30 (and above) identify groups, read a calendar and tell time to the hour, estimate measurements, and learn the value of coins (penny, nickel and dime). Students learn addition/subtraction facts to 10, geometric shapes, and fractions (halves). Problem solving activities challenge those more advanced.
Science:
Kindergartners study the body and five senses, seasons, planets, plant life, animal life, environments and recycling.
Social Studies:
Kindergartners learn about where they live, their address and telephone number. We learn about community helpers and visit the Medford Fire House and Police Station. We discuss and celebrate cultural differences. We learn about our country’s leaders and why we celebrate National Holidays/meaning behind Our Flag.
Class Productions:
Students participate in joint celebrations/productions where families come to celebrate: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Concert, Grandparent’s Day, and Kindergarten Celebration of Growth in June.
Fine/Gross Motor Skills/Arts:
Kindergartners draw, color, cut and glue on a daily basis. They create crafts for family members throughout the year.
Specials:
Gym, Art, Music, Computer, Spanish and Library Classes are part of our Kindergarten Week. Special Teachers provide our students with additional skills in these areas.
