Buddy Family Program: This program is designed to match a current school family with a new incoming school family to help them throughout the year. The current family will make contact with the new family prior to the start of school. The current school family will help with answering questions and guide their new family throughout the school year.
Pre-K, Kindergarten and New Family Breakfast:
This breakfast is held at the beginning of the school year. It is designed to welcome all new families to our school, as well as current families with new Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Here they can meet other families, ask questions, and be welcomed into the St. Mary of the Lakes School Community.
Back to School Night: Back to School Night is held in mid-September each Fall. Two separate evenings are held: one for K-4th Grade Students and one for 5th-8th Grade Students.
PTA Family Blue Folders:
These folders are used as a means of communication from the school Principal, School Main Office, and PTA to all school families. Each week the Blue Folders are sent home on Thursday with the youngest child in your family. Please look for the Blue Folder on Thursday. These folders should be returned to school the next day. (Please Note: During a shortened week, the Blue Folders may be sent home earlier.) This form of communication is used to send important and newsworthy events happening throughout the year to all families. If you have time sensitive or teacher specific communication, please send it to them directly through your child.
The PTA has adopted a "green" initiative. Less and less paper communication has been included in the blue folders each week. PTA utilizes the School Web Site (www.smlschool.org) and attachments to the Weekly E-mail Updates to convey information and flyers for school events.
PTA Newsletters: Newsletters are sent out periodically during the school year from our school PTA. They will now be sent via e-mail.
The school web address is www.smlschool.org. This web-site is maintained by volunteers and is frequently updated. You will find current School, PTA, Fundraising, Classroom, and Athletic information on this site.
You will receive a school calendar at the beginning of each school year. This calendar will highlight important dates. Also, included in this calendar is the St. Mary of the Lakes School “Policies and Procedures”. This is for you to keep at home for your reference throughout the year. However, please note that if there are changes to this calendar during the year, you will be notified via Weekly e-mail Update and on our school Website.
The St. Mary of the Lakes PTA will send out an e-mail update, if necessary, to all school families. This will include highlights for the week/month, notices, sports updates, news worthy items, etc.
School Family Directory: At the beginning of the year, you will receive a school family directory. This directory is your source for phone numbers and addresses of importance and those of all the current school families. The information in this directory is for your personal use only.
St. Mary of the Lakes PTA, Volunteering and Fundraising
The objective of the St. Mary of the Lakes School PTA is to help parents and teachers develop a mutual understanding and appreciation of the ideals of Catholic education; namely message, community, service and worship. The PTA provides programs, opportunities and raises funds needed to achieve this.
Family Commitment Requirements:
St. Mary of the Lakes School Families are requested to volunteer on at least one school service or PTA Sponsored Fundraiser and help fundraise at least $350.00 in Fundraising Profit each year; as indicated on the School Contract signed at registration.
St. Mary of the Lakes School PTA’s Annual Contribution to the School Budget:
Each year, the St. Mary of the Lakes School PTA helps offset the cost of Tuition for each student by contributing $85,000.00 to the school budget. These funds are generated throughout the year by the PTA Sponsored Fundraisers. This is why it is important for each family to meet their Family Fundraising Commitment.
The fundraising year begins July 1st and ends June 15th. Fundraising continues throughout the summer through the Grocery Certificate Program and Scrip Program.
Fundraisers: There are many PTA Sponsored fundraisers throughout the year and information will be sent home prior to the beginning of each one. Only PTA Sponsored Fundraisers qualify for raising funds to meet your family commitment requirements. There are two ongoing PTA Sponsored Fundraisers throughout the year: The Grocery Certificate Program and Scrip Program.
Grocery Gift Card Program:
This program is offered continually throughout the school year and through the summer months. This program allows you to purchase grocery certificates to be used at: Shop Rite, Murphy’s, and Acme Food Stores. These stores give back 5% of every dollar of Grocery Certificates purchased to our school. You incur NO additional out of pocket cost. Simply use the grocery certificates at the store register instead of cash. Grocery Certificates can be purchased: At the School Main Office; At the Parish Office; Through the Weekly Family Blue Folders; After Masses on Saturday and Sunday.
Since St. Mary of the Lakes School receives 5% of every certificate purchased, 5% of your total is credited toward your $350 fundraising commitment. Purchase $100 of certificates every week during the school year and you will contribute $200 toward your financial commitment. ($100 X 40 wks X 5% = $200). Purchase $150 of grocery certificates every week for the entire year and you will exceed your $350 fund raising commitment. ($150 X 52 weeks X 5% = $390)!!! The beauty of it is that you have not spent any money other than what you would have spent on groceries for your family. With the cooperation of our school families and our local grocery stores, our school raises over $50,000 in profit each year from the Grocery Certificate Fundraising Program. It is our biggest fundraiser. Click here for additional information about Grocery Gift Card Fundraising Program and the Grocery Gift Card Order Form.
This program is offered during the school year. This program allows you to purchase Gift Cards to various stores and restaurants at face value and they, in turn give a percentage back to our school. These percentages vary for each store and restaurant and are listed on the Scrip Order Form. In addition, you may use Shop with Scrip at www.shopwithscrip.com to have a larger selection of gift cards in various denominations. Scrip Gift Cards and Shop with Scrip orders can be purchased through the Blue Folders on the designated weeks throughout the school year. You incur NO additional out of pocket expense for purchasing these Gift Cards. These are great for you to use to do your holiday shopping, give as gifts or simply use as you need. A list of participating vendors is found on the Order Form and may change periodically. Click here for additional information about the Scrip Gift Card Program and the Scrip Order Form.
Please keep track of your family fundraising throughout the year, you will find tracking forms available on our school web-site. The PTA Sponsored Fundraisers are listed on this form. It is your responsibility to track your fundraising purchases.
Other “Non-PTA” Sponsored Fundraisers:
Throughout the year, you may receive information regarding other fundraisers sponsored by different sources such as the Athletic Teams, 8th Grade Class etc. You are encouraged to support as many fundraisers as you can. However, please remember that only the PTA Sponsored Fundraisers are applied to meet your family fundraising commitment. Funds from “Non-PTA” Sponsored Fundraisers support other needs in the school community.
Also, the PTA may provide information on ways to help support our school through “no cost fundraisers” that give back a percentage of profits. However, not all of these fundraisers can be applied to meet your family fundraising commitment. Only those that are able to be tracked can and are noted on the tracking forms.
If you are interested in volunteering with any PTA Fundraiser, Social Event or School Service Area, please contact any PTA Board Member or the Chairperson of the specific function.
